The Guesthouse project is a continuously evolving initiative whose core objective is to create a place for production, meeting and cross-practice exchange and collaboration. We host residencies for local, national and international artists that support experimentation and the development of new work.
The residency programme forms the centre of the project and includes both residential and non-residential short-term stays that offer an opportunity for artists or collaborative groups to develop projects and to test out ideas and strategies for exhibition, performance publication etc.
Within this social and residential setting we host a diverse range of solo and group projects involving artists, curators, critics and passionate cooks. The kitchen is the social centre of The Guesthouse and we encourage participants to consider taking on The Guesthouse apron and cook up a storm to create a fertile environment for socialising, thinking and the relaxed exchange of ideas.
Our open events engage with a diverse and enthusiastic audience and include experimental film screenings, improvised and experimental sound art, performance art, readings, gramophone sessions, exhibitions/ installations, discussions, talks and presentations.
The Guesthouse Project is an artist led initiative developed by the Cork ArtistsCollective and was prompted by the desire for a space in which to curate a programme of transient projects and residencies.
The Project was made possible through the location and renovation of the building by Cork City Council in Collaboration with CAC and was launched in 2009 with the support of the Arts Council of Ireland.
